In a hilarious response to Little Mermaid casting news, Brooklyn 99’s Terry Crews has nominated himself to play Ariel’s dad in the upcoming Little Mermaid live-action adaptation.

After Disney announced talent Halley Bailey would play the iconic mermaid in their upcoming adaptation, the internet exploded in a flurry of opposing opinions, shocking no one.

Divided opinions over the actress’s casting permeated the internet. Regardless of people’s opinions on Bailey’s casting, the internet also decided to start listing some other dream casting decisions of their own.

Other iconic roles in the movie include Prince Eric, Ariel’s love interest, and King Triton, Ariel’s dad, as well as the sea witch Ursula.

What followed was a volley of several popular and iconic actors being nominated for these roles, thanks to the creativity of Twitter threads and Instagram posts. Fans lobbied for One Direction’s Harry Styles to play the iconic role of Prince Eric, Ariel’s love interest in the film.

The power of the internet cannot be underestimated in this day and age, and sure enough, it was later discovered that Harry Styles was in fact in talks for the role at one point but eventually turned it down, reportedly wishing to focus on music for the time being instead.

Other popular fan-castings included comedian Melissa McCarthy for the role of Ursula, a role she no doubt would excel at.

With all the internet abuzz with fan-castings, one famous actor took it upon himself to nominate himself for the movie’s iconic role of King Triton, Ariel’s father. Tweeting about it himself, Terry Crews delighted the internet by posting a photoshopped picture of himself as King Triton, exclaiming his delight over the idea of his playing Ariel’s dad.

The internet quickly erupted with delight. Terry Crews, long beloved by the internet for his kind demeanor and resemblance to the moral character he plays on sitcom Brooklyn 99, is exactly the type of character to get the internet excited about possible casting.

He’s got the physique – Terry Crews is well known for his fitness routine and buff appearance, mimicking the muscular appearance of King Triton in the original Little Mermaid cartoon.
