The world’s largest t-shirt is more than six times the length of a double-decker bus and larger than some of the football grounds. You won’t find anyone who would fit into this world’s largest t-shirt. Still, it has gained the attention of people from all across the world.
We got to see the t-shirt in October 2014 when it was revealed in Brazil. If we talk about the size of this world’s largest t-shirt, let us tell you that the length of it is 93.2 meters (305.8 ft) and a width of 62.7 meters (205.7 ft). This t-shirt easily managed to break all the records of the largest t-shirts in the world.
The idea behind the creation
The idea behind the creation of this largest t-shirt in the world was to raise awareness for breast cancer. The t-shirt was completely unveiled in October since this is Breast Cancer Awareness month in most of the countries across the world.
The company responsible for creating this giant t-shirt was Equilibrios Camisetas Promocionais. This is a Brazilian clothing brand that was founded in 1994. This Brazilian clothing business has gathered a wide customer base by manufacturing high-quality clothing. Before the creation of this giant t-shirt, this clothing business was not so popular in the country. But this t-shirt brought fortune for the company and also a world record for the largest t-shirt in the world.
RFCC, which is an organization that is also known as a Female Network Against Cancer, helped in the creation and promotion of the t-shirt. The t-shirt was colored as bright pink in order to associate it with breast cancer awareness and many breast cancer charities. The t-shirt had the name of the manufacturer as well as the charity (RFCC) in the top right corner. This largest t-shirt in the world was created using two main materials, i.e., cotton and recycled PET bottles. Recycled PET bottles made up 50% of the t-shirt.
Talking about the weight of the t-shirt, it weighed at around 4,500 kg or 9920 lbs, which is approximately the same as an adult hippopotamus. The creation of the project took so much manpower that around 64 people worked all together, putting in combined 11,000 hours in total. This hard work and dedication made a world record. The project for the world’s largest t-shirt was coordinated and managed by Rogerio Tomaz, who said that it was a wonderful experience to accomplish a big dream, while also raising money for a great cause.
In 2014, the t-shirt entered the Guinness World Records as the largest t-shirt in the world, bypassing the previous record holder from 2011. Both of these largest t-shirts were made with the idea of raising money for a great cause. After setting the world record, Equilibrios decided to use all that material for good use. The manufacturer made 10,000 t-shirts out of it that were sold as limited stock to raise funds for the RFCC.
