A dog can often sense when his owner is in pain, sick, or happy. When a dog senses that there’s something wrong, then he might not leave his owner’s side until he feels as though everything is alright. Even after his owner is gone, a dog might stay near a favorite chair or a favorite location where they frequented together.
Moose lived with his owner for three years in their New Jersey home. They did many of the things that dogs and their owners do including playing fetch and relaxing on the couch. When Moose’s owner died in a hospital bed, Moose was left without an owner. He didn’t want to leave the side of the bed where his owner died, not understanding why he wasn’t going to see his owner again or smell his scent. Someone in the hospital saw Moose sitting beside the bed and took of picture of the dog. The picture was circulated on social media in the hopes that someone would adopt Moose.
NorthStar Pet Rescue found the picture and knew that the organization had to do something to help Moose. The rescue organization posted the picture of the dog beside the bed on its Facebook page. A caption underneath the picture offered information about Moose being a loyal friend and a sweet boy in need of a forever home. The dog also needed someone to help his heart recover from losing his best friend.
Several people saw the post and wanted to try to find a home for Moose. They shared the post with friends and family members. Since the pain of losing a loved one or a pet is common among most people, those who saw the picture knew that Moose was likely heartbroken. Since dogs can’t talk and voice their feelings, it’s not known as to whether or not they grieve. Moose appeared to grieve over his owner in the picture that was taken. Some dogs enter a state of depression and stop eating. There are also dogs who die after they lose their owners.
Soon after the rescue organization posted Moose’s picture of him looking out the hospital room window, he was taken to a foster shelter in another area of New Jersey. Only a few days later, applications started pouring in from people who wanted to adopt Moose. After careful analysis, the rescue organization found a forever home for Moose. His new home is full of love and laughter, and Moose has been all smiles since he was adopted.
